Library of Congress Bicentennial Celebration Presentation - Page 14

Highly detailed decorative carvings occupy the foreground. Racks of
decoys are at the rear.

Everything is offered for sale to the collector, carver, and hobbyist; carving woods in bulk, or machine carved birds, fish, and animals, fresh from the lathe, and smelling sweetly of pine, ready for sandpaper and paint, to make an entry for upstairs. Looking at all this commerce, it can be seen that the greatest legacy of 40 years of artform, coast to coast, has been the, shoring up of the national economy, and a boost to the gross national product.

Men of substance. Collectors line up behind a table of classics and "mid range" offerings. Left to right:
Vic Halbert, of Loomis; Jerry Rosenthal, Los Gatos; Vince Amato, Martinez; and Lew Clingan, Sacramento.
Clingan holds a famous Nathan Cobb brant from the Mackey collection. Amato holds a plastic pullstring Flap-O
-Matic. Halbert and Rosenthal expect you to be in on the joke.
